The Boutique Hotel San Roque is in the old quarter of Garachico. Situated on the North-East coast of Tenerife, this town has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest, and many consider it one of the most beautiful enclaves on the island. It used to be a stately town and the most important trading port of Tenerife. The violent eruption of the Arenas Negras volcano in 1706 devastated the town to the point of curbing the economic development of the port, the driving force of its economy, but it rose from the ashes and now conserves a truly brilliant past that can be clearly seen in its architecture: palaces, mansions, convents and churches, charming narrow streets of white-washed houses.
The charm of this town is also its relaxed, calm atmosphere, inviting you to enjoy your holidays even more.
Its tradition as a fishing port sets the tone for the gastronomy of Garachico, a benchmark in typical fresh local fish, but also of the more traditional Canary Island cuisine, such as “mojos” (sauces), rabbit in “salmorejo” (a thicker form of gazpacho) and chick peas.
There are many places of interest within walking distance of the Hotel: Plaza de La Libertad with its original stall where you can have an aperitif among the locals; the Piedra Musuem, San Ana Church, San Miguel Castle-Fort and the seashore, the natural pools of El Caletón, the ideal place to lie in the sun and take a refreshing dip.
Garachico is a town that has struck the perfect balance between development and maintaining its historic heritage. Anyone who likes to be surrounded by a bit of history and let their imagination roam will find plenty of places to enjoy and dream about in its streets and surrounding areas.
