Carmen Calvo (Valencia, 1950) is one of the most recognised conceptual artists in contemporary Spanish art. Trained at the School of Arts and Crafts and at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, she lived and worked in Paris between 1985 and 1992 before returning to Valencia.
She represented Spain at the Venice Biennale in 1997. In 2003, the Museo Reina Sofía dedicated a solo exhibition to her work. In 2013 she received the National Prize for Visual Arts and in 2014 she was appointed a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos in Valencia.
Her work forms part of institutional collections such as the IVAM, the Museo Reina Sofía and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
On the Main Staircase of the hotel is the installation La muerte de una estrella es un ojo, composed of 450 handmade ceramic and glass elements. The piece accompanies the guest on the route between the different floors of the house.
In Room 112 there is a model of the installation, made as a drawing on tissue paper.
