Boutique Hotel San Roque occupies a manor house in the historic centre of Garachico. A building discovered by the Carayon family in 1990, restored between 1992 and 1996, and transformed into a hotel that has been open for almost thirty years without losing the intention with which it was conceived.
“It was destiny that led us through the door of this house in 1990. The short walk to its staircase was enough to feel that, although time had left its mark on the walls, its history remained intact. In that moment, an immense peace came over us and convinced us that this place had a special purpose in our lives.”
“In 1992, we began the restoration of this 18th-century architectural jewel, completing the works in 1996. Every decision respected the essence of Casa de Ponte, a historic building that called for preserving its sober elegance and unique legacy. Our aim was always to honour its past while giving it new life.”
The restoration preserved the elements that give character to the building’s Canarian architecture: the interior patios, the wooden galleries, the volcanic stone of the walls and the proportions of the spaces. The structure was not altered to adapt to a hotel; the hotel adapted to the structure.
High ceilings, differences in floor levels, interior staircases and wooden corridors are part of the experience of moving through the house. As you walk along the galleries, the wood creaks beneath your steps and still carries a faint scent of resin.
Beneath the patio, the pool was excavated through the volcanic rock on which the building stands. Old Canarian houses were not built with conventional foundations, and this encounter with the rock during the works became one of the most singular challenges of the restoration.

The Hotel San Roque project was led by Laly and Dominique, who devoted years to transforming a ruined building into a habitable place without renouncing its history. Sadly, Dominique passed away a few years after the hotel opened.
Since then, their son has maintained the project’s original vision: a hotel where architecture, art and hospitality coexist within the same house. The team that accompanies the hotel has been part of it for many years. That familiarity is part of what guests perceive when they arrive.
The house remains the same one that was restored between 1992 and 1996. What has changed and grown is the contemporary art collection, the design furniture, the Anturium restaurant, and almost three decades of life within its walls.
